IN CLASS WRITING
Georges Perec shows us how we can change the spatial context by which we understand something (a mailbox—a blue container, or a piece of a network that brings the world into one “room,” one space).
Using this idea, reflect upon the classroom, this classroom.
Try to see it at its most basic and simple, and then, expand.
What function does this classroom serve in spaces greater than it? Try to offer several different levels of space.
What do we see in the classroom that links us to a greater space? What do we not see? How do these different levels of spaces work together with the classroom as its focal point?
Incorporate several quotations from Perec, as you go about your discussion.
You will be evaluated on your demonstration of a cohesive essay, that takes up the issues that we have discussed this semester, and exemplifies them using the classroom and its relation to space.
